Book Review: The First City by Joe Hart

The First City by Joe Hart
My Rating: 5 of 5

Those who read my review of The Final Trade will already know that I was disappointed with the very end with the reveal that Zoe is the Keystone (The Chosen One!!!).

Thankfully, in The First City, Keystone is just a word. After all the experiments that NOA performed on Zoe and the other women at the ARC, Zoe's eggs have been harvested to successfully grow a female baby. So she's special, but not in some supernatural way.

There's a new bad guy introduced in this novel. This man believes that he's able to father female children, so he recruits an army and loads a ship with heavy weapons as he searches for the ARC and the women there who can mother his daughters.

The First City had a good amount of action. There are also a few heartfelt scenes both incredibly sad and also super satisfying.

I was a little let down by the ending. Not the action packed climax—that was great—but the stuff about the First City. Zoey's tale felt like it was abruptly cut short for a silly reason. Also, I might be reeling from the fact that this is the end of the series, so there's not another book featuring Zoey and her new family for me to read.

All in all, this is a great book, and I highly recommend the entire series to anyone who enjoys dystopian stories.
