All Hallows Write Tag featuring Quality DNA

Happy Halloween, everyone! Halloween is no longer the crazy party day it was in my early twenties, although I am totally happy staying at home, handing out candy, and squee-ing over all the cute kid costumes as my husband takes out our two munchkins—both dressed as Batman—trick-or-treating.

There’s a fun Halloween book tag going around called “All Hallows Write Tag.” Since I’ve just finished binge-watching YouTube videos with the tag, I thought I’d play along here using my newest novel, Quality DNA. So, let’s get spooky!

It’s Halloween night! What is your protagonist dressed up as?
There are three point-of-view characters in Quality DNA. Irene is a total workaholic and would barely make it to the Halloween party, so she definitely wouldn’t be dressed up. Annette’s a fun-loving person who isn’t always...appropriate. She’d barely squeeze into an all-leather lion tamer outfit, dressing her baby as a cuddly lion. Although Jamie is an artist, she would choose comfort over creativity for her attire, pairing an oversized sweater with cozy leggings and a rabbit-ear headband.

On Halloween, werewolves, vampires, and zombies are on the prowl. Which of your characters gets caught in their clutches, and which creature do they subsequently turn into?
Elijah is the youngest worker in the social department office and tends to be a bit naive and a little too trusting. Wanting to see the best in every person, he would unknowingly bring a zombie as his date, thinking she was just wearing a sick costume.

Who wins the contest for best costume?
Aiden. He would dress up as a superhero, complete with muscle suit, cape, and perfectly gelled hair. Even with his costume on point, he would make sure to work the entire room of guests, letting each person know how thrilled he would be to get their vote in the contest.

Who hands out toothbrushes to the trick and treaters?
Clara. That bitch. Annette’s sister-in-law is an expert at sucking all the fun out of everything.

Which two of your characters decide to pair up and do an angel/devil costume together?
Angel and Florida, although they wouldn’t coordinate it. Angel would dress up as an angel, since he has a ‘dad’ style sense of humor. Not wanting to spend money on his costume, he’d opt for drawing wings on the back of a white t-shirt with a sharpie and using a loop of tinsel as a halo. Florida would dress up as a devil, pairing a wine-colored turtleneck, matching faux-leather pencil skirt, and dainty horns with her trademark red lipstick, going for classy over sexy.

Someone is too scared to even attend the Halloween party. Who is it?
Elijah’s hacker friend, Dora. She doesn’t do parties. In fact, she just about never leaves her apartment.

Who overdoses on Halloween candy and ends up sick?
Elijah, if his date doesn’t eat him first.

Which character is most likely to place a curse/hex on someone and who would they curse?
Jamie. She’d curse Irene, her wife, but just for the evening. Then Jamie would be free to party, out from under Irene’s watchful gaze.

I did skip a few questions since the answers would have been redundant. Check out the original tag on Sam Kassé’s Tumblr here! If you participate, let me know—I’d love to read your responses.
